I, Mitchel Newman, am a lifetime resident of Jasper County. I was born October 28, 1952 and my family has been in Jasper County since 1880. I graduated from Jasper High School in 1971 and was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army. I later graduated from the Angelina College Police Academy to begin my service for the citizens of Jasper County. I have an Advanced Peace Officer’s Certificate with 1,416 hours of continued Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) training. I was one of thirty chosen from all Sheriffs across the United States to attend the National Sheriff’s Association Leadership School in Colorado in 2011.
As your Sheriff, I promise to work hard and make the war on drugs one of my priorities. I took office January 1, 2009 with a goal to do my best to fulfill all of my campaign promises. We have been busy since that time and now have great relationships with other agencies in which we share our resources. I have a great staff of men and women who are very professional in doing their duties to protect and serve all of the citizens of Jasper County and also remembering who we are and where we came from.
I love my job and continue to protect all of the citizens in Jasper County. My door is always open and hot coffee is available.
